Leon & Gail ask if anyone on the list remember Alex Fogel, former editor
of SPAH's Harmonica Happenings. Yes, I knew him very well, and worked
side by side with him for a number of years. He was editor from its
inception in September 1967 until his untimely death on August 29, 1988,
the day before the beginning of SPAH's 25th Anniversary Convention.
A teacher at Lincoln Park (Michigan) High School, he was also a good
chord player, and was a long-time member of Lincoln Park's Harmonica
Varieties - a harmonica quartet plus drums, that included Charlie Moll
(lead chromatic), Dick White (2nd lead chromatic), Bob Quenneville
(bass), and Bob Afholter (drums). Charlie also sang vocals with the
group, which had a run of approximately 15 years. However all but Bob
Quenneville are now deceased, and sorely missed.
